Artist Statement
“This look was made in response to Freud’s catch-all diagnosis of hysteria, which connects to the modern-day misconception of women being overly emotional. I believe the bold, fun-loving, brave woman for whom I design is the most at risk of psychiatrists’ biases. My concept extends to the medical field, illustrating how Freud’s dismissal of physical ailments as purely emotional is perpetuated by modern-day doctors. In this look, I aim to tell this story with a sweater and pants inspired by the visuals of cells and body scans underneath a jacket with embellished ink blots.”
