Artist Statement
“The piece is a Möbius strip made from braided hair, woven on a loom constructed from metal wire. It will be approximately 16 inches in diameter and 12 inches high. I believe this piece aligns well with the themes of the exhibition. Hair is a psychologically charged material—while it can symbolize beauty, resilience, and cultural identity, it also carries connotations of mortality. Unlike flesh, hair decomposes slowly, creating a haunting contrast that speaks to the tension between life and decay. The Möbius strip form further reinforces this idea, symbolizing the continuous nature of death, the slow passage of time, and perhaps even the possibility of rebirth or reincarnation. The way the hair is presented gives it an unsettling, almost nightmare-like quality, evoking an existential unease that resonates with surrealist themes.”
