“on the mutual ending of Thelma & Louise”
by Erica Leslie Weidner
the Thunderbird soaring into the Grand Canyon seems a good way to go. let’s not get caught, Louise says to Thelma. you sure? Thelma says to Louise. suicide’s never the answer but kissing a woman after you’ve been through hell together and deciding it’s better to die than to live in a man’s world? iconic and all too relatable. so I’ll romanticize the blue skies and red rocks, the teased hair, the love for one another, the fear of going to Texas. suicide’s never the answer but I’ll romanticize what’s real. and nothing is more romantic than going over that cliff together. for a second, they fly.
