Memories Are Made Of This

By: Marc Shapiro

Television on. A white noise parade of no interest. Bowl games a blur of bland and empty hype. Year end wrap ups of all news is bad news for the world. Tuning out. Trying to remember the good times and not finding much of that. Lonely. Numb. Tearful. Memories of when there were two of us. When we would spend the last day of the year at the track. Blowing some money. Eating unhealthy food that tasted so great. Before racing home to watch the ball drop. East coast time. So we could say we made it to midnight. Before falling asleep in each other’s arms.

December 31, 2021. Rest in peace.
