Seasonally Affected
By: Sylvie Meltzer
Artist Statement: “Seasonally Affected is a photographic performance project devised to ward off my thriving yearly Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). I wondered if I could capture the storm within by learning to accept the one outside. Instead of losing myself in the dark, it was a declaration of letting go and a way to creatively rage against the things I couldn’t change.
Through a self-portrait every day for the entire month of July, I attempt to embody the season and look it directly in the eyes. What I discovered, by engaging Winter as a player in my creativity, was a new relationship with it - and a different conversation.”
