Artist statement: “Another theme was coming into wisdom and into myself, especially in my mid 20s as my frontal lobe developed. I was also thinking about the cyclical nature of life and its different stages (largely symbolized by the 3 owls). In her facial expression I wanted to show reflection, but also the a deep tenacity that conveys her willingness to progress past the grievances of her newfound revelations. Lastly I wanted to depict something representative of divine feminine energy.”


Amuri Morris is an artist based in Richmond, VA. She recently graduated with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University. Throughout the years, she has acquired several artistic accolades, such as a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship. Amuri aims to promote diversity within the visual arts canon, specifically focusing on the Black experience.
